A whistleblower news report embroiled Chrysler in a scandal over the actions of plant workers. Chrysler plant workers were found using drugs and consuming during their lunch break. Somebody gave a tip to a news station in Detroit, who filmed the men partaking and then the story broke. A swift resolution was promised and delivered by Chrysler. All parties involved were placed on suspension right away. Of those involved, 2 are nevertheless suspended and 13 are fired.
Chrysler livid at employee libations
An anonymous tip was given to WJBK Fox 2, a Fox affiliate in Detroit, as outlined by USA Today. It concerned staff from the Jefferson North Chrysler Motors plant. The plant in question assembles the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The station was tipped off that workers from the plant would go to a local park to drink alcohol and smoke what appeared to be marijuana. The news crew went to investigate. The ritual of smoking and drinking went on for 5 days until an anchor went up to the man and asked what they were up to. The party broke up. The news crew followed them back to the plant. To make matters worse, the investigative report comes days after a visit and stump speech by Obama.
The situation leads to canning of 13 individuals>
Chrysler could not fire everyone at first, so 15 were put on suspension. Due to agreements made between Chrysler and also the United Auto Staff, proper procedure has to be terminated before any person can be terminated. There were 13 individuals terminated, and two more placed on suspension, according to Automotive News. Quality control and build inspection is done by automation, so the quality of the cars is not affected as outlined by Chrysler. The UAW also weighed in, saying the employees which were fired are a horrible exception. The UAW insists that their people are the top in the field, apart from the rotten apples.
Not even brewery staff get to drink at work
There is no excuse for going to work intoxicated. Not even executives get a “three martini lunch” anymore. An industrial site has to be absolutely safe at all times. Drinking and taking other illegal intoxicants is certainly contrary to safe practices.
